Azo dye dispersions - made by coupling in presence of anionic dispersing agents


Aq. dispersions of insol. azo dyes are made by coupling components free from solubilising gps in presence of an anionic dispersing agent. The dispersion, pref. contg. >=100% surfactant based on theoretical wt. of dye is then dried, pref. by spray-drying. The dispersant is pref. a Na salt of a formaldehyde/naphthalene sulphonic acid condensate or of a lignin sulphonic acid. The process gives products in easily handled granular form which disperse readily in water.
